Brewing for Greenways Dunkelweizen Release 11/15 at Wedge Brewery

Nov 07, 2016

We've teamed up with our neighbor, Wedge Brewing Co., for delicious collaboration to benefit greenways! On Tuesday, November 15, join us for a release party at the Wedge starting at 5:00 p.m. with a bike ride and tapping of the traditional German ale, Dunkelweizen. The beer will be on tap at both Wedge and New Belgium and for every pint of the Wedge/New Belgium Dunkelweizen sold, $1 will be donated to putting greenways on the ground in Buncombe County.

Brewed in the heart of the River Arts District at the Wedge, Dunkelweizen is a take on a traditional German Dark Wheat Ale, using a decoction mash to bring out malt character reminiscent of chocolate banana bread. Freshly cracked black pepper compliments clove notes from the yeast, with a tart, clean finish. Enjoy this hearty fall beer, and help support Friends of Connect Buncombe. ABV: 6.3%

“We are so grateful for the support and leadership of the brewing community,” says Suzanne Malloy, Director of Friends of Connect Buncombe.  “Imagine one day when our neighborhoods are connected by greenways to local breweries and gathering spots for all of us to enjoy. Working together we can make a difference in our communities.”

To date, Brewing for Greenways has raised more than $15,000 to support Friends of Connect Buncombe. According to the City of Asheville, the French Broad River greenway that runs between our brewery and the French Broad River and the trailhead at Emma and Craven Street will be complete by early 2017! It will eventually connect to 4 additional miles of greenway, enabling riders to go all the way from Hominy Creek to New Belgium Brewing.

We did a practice bicycle beer run the other evening - should be fun! See you at 5 p.m. on November 15 for the ride!

New Belgium employee owners Steve Ahn and Jason Burke join Wedge manager Shelton Steel to practice biking some barrels over the French Broad River. Soon we'll ride the greenway to each other!
