How to drink through the Fat Tire & Friends pack

We really wanted to do something special in celebration of New Belgium’s 25th anniversary, so we got together with friends from five different breweries, gave them the keys to the Fat Tire recipe, and said, “Surprise us.” The result is Fat Tire & Friends, a collaborative variety pack featuring five unique spins on the original fave, plus a couple bottles of Fat Tire for good measure. This is the wildest pack we’ve ever released, and probably the wildest variety pack of the year. There’s Avery Fat Wild Ale (brewed with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis Drie), Allagash Fat Funk Ale (bottle conditioned with Brettanomyces Allagagensis), Hopworks Fat Sour Apple Ale (brewed with Lactobacillus and apple...

We're brewing another beer with Ben & Jerry's

It's true! We're teaming up again with fellow B-Corp pint-makers (see what I did there?) to make a follow-up beer to last year's Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale. What's this year's flavor? Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ale, and it's deliciously decadent. There's much more to come on the beer, which is scheduled to hit shelves and taps this fall, so in the  meantime, give our press release a read: New Belgium Brewing and Ben & Jerry’s are teaming up once again to create a new ice cream inspired beer while raising awareness about climate change. Inspired by one of Ben & Jerry’s smash hits, New Belgium has developed Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ale, a special release beer to hit the shelves in t...

Ediza Ferris, a cruiser bike and a lot of pizza

Back in the summer of 2015 we ran a little competition called #MakeNicZag. We asked Fat Tire drinkers to send in interesting and/or quirky activities for Nic (former intern and the person currently writing this blog) to complete while riding a New Belgium cruiser bike. We then chose our favorite — which ended coming from Ediza Ferris — and gave her a bike. Ediza, who embodies the word "awesome," brought her idea to life. Watch the video to see what we mean... Much thanks to Ediza for coming up with the idea and making it happen. Check out her blog at www.healthygirlfashion.com (and big shout out to Flux Capacitor on the video work).

New Belgium and Dick Cantwell team on Ales for ALS

Dick Cantwell is a brewing legend, so when he decided to brew his first post-Elysian acquisition beer in our pilot brewery, we were obviously excited. Cantwell worked with our pilot brewers on this year's version of Ales for ALS, a charity brew that benefits research on ALS (commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease).  We caught up with Cantwell to chat the beer and his new book — "Wood & Beer: A Brewer's Guide" — which he co-authored with New Belgium Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. Check out our interview below.

You've never had a sour beer like this before

Tart Lychee is making a triumphant return. Our newest Lips of Faith sour release starts as a golden lager brewed with sweet lychee fruit and aromatic Vietnamese cinnamon before it's blended with sour Felix from the wood cellar for an intense marriage of sweet and sour. It’s a highly anticipated release here at the brewery (we haven’t made it in a few years), so we caught up with wood cellar manager Eric Salazar to chat about how his team creates the sour beer. Tell us a little bit about the origins of Tart Lychee. We first tasted Lychee juice in Hawaii back in 2008. You can actually get it in a bottle and drink it like a fruit drink. It’s really good; it’s sweet and has a distinctive fl...

How is your New Belgium beer soured?

You're standing at the cooler of your favorite bottle shop, looking for a sour beer to take home. In front of you are two options: On the right, La Folie, and on the left, Snapshot Tart Wheat. Sure, both are sour beers, but their flavor profiles and souring processes couldn’t be more different. There’s an interesting conversation popping up inside New Belgium and beyond our walls: How do we consistently communicate the difference between wood-aged souring and stainless steel souring? It’s a conversation that’s evolving, and certainly one that’s picking up steam in the craft beer industry as swiftly made stainless steel sours are beginning to share more shelf space with their wood-aged cous...

Check out Fat Tire’s new look for summer

This summer, we’re giving our flagship Fat Tire Amber Ale a little bit of a cosmetic makeover to celebrate our 25th anniversary. That’s right, the traditional Fat Tire blue is on temporary hiatus in favor of a few playfully exotic colors. Each month this summer, beginning with May, we’re rolling out new colors in canned 12-packs of Fat Tire. The first wave’s pictured above alongside traditional Fat Tire. Next month, expect a pop of bright green (stay tuned!). Four months, four colors. Collect them all. While you’re on the lookout for next month’s color, don’t forget to scoop up our Fat Tire & Friends Collabeeration Pack when it lands late June. Here’s to drinking in style!
