Monarchs Stop Here

Environmental Stewardship is one of our core values and beliefs here at New Belgium. One of the most awesome migrations in the natural world is the annual journey by millions of monarch butterflies from their summer homes across North America to their overwintering sites in central Mexico. Populations of these pollinating butterflies have decline dramatically in the last several years. One of the primary threats to their survival is the loss of milkweed plants-their only food source- across the U.S. With the help of our partners, we’ve built a pollinator friendly landscape at our Asheville brewery. In August, our Asheville co-workers came out on a Sunday morning and planted 500 milkweed p...

Brownfield to Brewery: Artists respond to transition of place

When we went looking for an east coast home back in 2009, one thing that was a little unusual about our search was that we were seeking a brownfield site or a site that needed to be improved as part of our development process. In 2012, we purchased 18 acres along the west bank of the French Broad River in Asheville’s River District and remediated the brownfield to build our east coast home and address the environmental wellness of the place.
