RyePA: Rooted in CO and NC

Two years after its initial release, RyePA is coming back with a malty nod to our hometowns in Colorado and North Carolina. Originally brewed with Carolina Rye™, heirloom rye grown in North Carolina and floor malted by Riverbend Malt House in Asheville, RyePA revival also incorporates rye from Colorado Malting Company, a fourth-generation family farm in Alamosa, CO.  “As we open our east coast home in Asheville this spring, making a beer with roots in both homes led us right back to RyePA,” said New Belgium Brewer, Matty Gilliland. “Using malt from Riverbend and Colorado Malting allowed us to source hyper locally, brewing some essence of both places into the beer and growing our existing r...

Brownfield to Brewery: Artists respond to transition of place

When we went looking for an east coast home back in 2009, one thing that was a little unusual about our search was that we were seeking a brownfield site or a site that needed to be improved as part of our development process. In 2012, we purchased 18 acres along the west bank of the French Broad River in Asheville’s River District and remediated the brownfield to build our east coast home and address the environmental wellness of the place. Ben & Jerry’s and New Belgium Polish off a Pint for POW

If there’s one thing that socially responsible B Corp businesses have learned, it’s that we can’t go at it alone. Never has the phrase “polishing off a pint” been so perfectly poised in any partnership for a delicious double-entendre. Collectively committed to making a better impact in our global communities, we proudly introduce Salted Caramel Brown-ie Ale ice cream, which will be featured in Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops as well as in pints across the country as a Limited Batch flavor this fall. Our partnered beer, Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale, hits markets in the next couple of weeks. A portion of the proceeds from the ice cream and the beer will benefit environmental non-profit, Prote...

When you come to take a tour of the brewery, you’ll come into the Liquid Center and then these footbridges will lead you to where the magic happens. First, we need to get the bridges here. Bringing these large structures in requires police escort and DOT approval. We just received these approvals and apologize for the late notice. The two bridges will arrive around 7 p.m. tonight on 2 oversized flat bed trucks. They will come in I-240 W, to Exit 2 (Haywood Road), turning left onto Haywood, continuing around Beechum’s Curve and down Haywood Road, making a...

Build-a-Brewery: 1 million moving parts

We’re about 75% done with the brewery building and will be brewing beer in Asheville by the end of 2015, opening in early 2016. A&P is the general contractor with a scope of work that include...
