Tour de Fat, New Belgium Brewingâs traveling celebration of all things bicycle, is coming home to the Mothership on Saturday, September 6. The festival spreads the good word about the myriad benefits of cycling. Over the last eight years, Tour de Fat has captured the imagination of thousands with record-setting parades, eye-popping entertainment, a car-bike swap, and, of course, New Belgium beer. The tour runs through October, with eleven stops across the west. âTour de Fat is all things ridiculousâ continued Winn. âYouâll find costumes everywhere, art bikes you wouldnât think you can ride (but can) and great entertainment.â Tour de Fat is free to participants, but beer and merchandise proceeds from the Ft. Collins stop will go to Diamond Peaks Mountain Bike Patrol and Bike Fort Collins. The Fort Collins show will be moving across the street to New Belgiumâs Oxbow property just south of Buckingham off Linden St., thereby enlarging the footprint and adding the elements of trees and shade. The breweryâs focus, as always, is bikes forward - and beer secondary. Several considerations have been made to shorten lines and relieve congestion at this yearâs event. Still, organizers say a little neighborly courtesy goes a long way. âYou donât get fast food at the Tour de Fat,â said Winn. âThis is about slowing down and appreciating the good things in life. We can all get together, ride our bikes, respect our community and have a mighty good time. Itâs going to be a lot of fun.â
