2nd brewery, Asheville, here we come...

New Belgium announced two years ago that we were building a second brewery in the sunny mountain town of Asheville, NC. A lot of progress has been made since then: demolition was demolitioned, permits were permitted and site clean up was cleaned up. But yesterday was a big, BIG day in New Belgium history.

Yesterday we held the all-important groundbreaking (which, ya know, starts the whole building process) at our new brewery's site in Asheville. A whole bunch of super NBB peeps were there, including our fearless CEO Kim Jordan (who delivered a great speech to the crowd).

This groundbreaking was unique in that, really, it's kind of the first in our history. We started humbly in a basement nearly 23 years ago, and our brewery has been at the same location in Fort Collins since 1995.

When I think about the fact that 23 years ago we were in a basement in Colorado, and today we are breaking ground on our second brewery in a different state on the other side of the country, well, it's a bit mind-boggling (not to mention humbling).

The plan is for our Asheville brewery to brew beer by the latter part of 2015. That means more New Belgium beer, which means (fingers crossed) we will sell beer in some of those out-of-reach eastern states in the future.

In the meantime I'll keep you apprised of Asheville updates as they come through. And if you're itching for more, you can check out our section of the web site that's ENTIRELY dedicated to the Asheville brewery and follow our Asheville Twitter handle.
