That headline is misleading; DC is lovely. Period. But it did feel like the entire capitol came out for the first TdF of 2014 (7,000 people, to be roughly exact). From the Stage Stage to the Kid's Zone, and the Main Stage to the Bike Pit, today's Tour was a full house. We couldn't have asked for better accommodations, either. The Tour was held in Yards Park on the banks of the Anacosta River with beautiful sunshine and plenty of smiling faces.
But now on to the important stuff.
This year we raised about $50,000 for our nonprofit partners! They are Washington Area Bicyclist Association, Black Women Bike DC, Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling, Phoenix Bikes, and Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts.
You read that right —$42,000! We couldn't be more excited. And, as is the case for all Tour de Fat stops, it couldn't have happened without the volunteer support from the nonprofits.
I'll post more photos from today's BANGtacular TdF later this week. Right now it's time to go clean up, pack away and get ready for the next stop in Durham.
Cheers, and talk to you soon — Nic The Intern
