The Origin Story
In 1989, New Belgium co-founder, Jeff Lebesch, took the legendary bike ride across Belgium that inspired his iconic craft beer recipes. The pinnacle of this experience was a stop at the renowned Belgian beer bar in Brugge, ‘t Brugs Beertje, where Jeff spent hours talking and tasting Belgian beer with co-owner, Jan De Bruyne. It was in this visit that Jeff knew he had to bring Belgian-style beer to the US. Two years later, New Belgium was born, along with Fat Tire and his other recipes, all of which would change the face of American craft beer forever. We brought Jeff back home to brew Beertje Spiced Ale for our 35th Anniversary as an ode to the incredible “beerhouse” where it all began. We say "santé" to 35 years, friends in beer, Belgian beer tradition, and American craft beer lore.
Beertje Spiced Ale is available on draft and in 6-pack cans for a limited time, exclusively at our Fort Collins and Asheville Liquid Centers.
