The Origin Story
Western Roots is a collaboration between New Belgium and Bow & Arrow Brewing of Albuquerque, NM. As the first Native American women-owned brewery in America and with a dedication to sustainable brewing practices, we’ve long admired the team at Bow & Arrow and were honored to join hands in brewing Western Roots.
Western Roots is a citrusy and modern Farmhouse Ale featuring Kernza® grain from Troubadour Maltings in Fort Collins, CO. Kernza® is a perennial grain best known for its reduced soil disturbance and water efficient root system. Its roots can grow up to 10 feet deep into the soil giving it impressive carbon sequestration capabilities. At optimal usage, Kernza®-based beer production can achieve negative carbon footprint, meaning it sequesters more carbon than it produces.
