Job Wanted: An Equitable & Inclusive Workplace

So many companies talk about their commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – but it's often hard to really understand the truth. Say you're looking at an exciting new job for a company that promotes a commitment to DEI. How do you tell whether it's real or not from the inside?

When it comes to LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion – a critical component of the Human-Powered Business – the Human Rights Campaign makes it easy to know how your employer – or prospective employer – stacks up!

HRC's Corporate Equality Index is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies, practices and benefits relevant to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer employees. Using their simple search tool, you can view thousands of businesses and see how they stack up in supporting equitable, inclusive workplaces for LGBTQ+ people.

Most of us want to work for companies that show a tangible commitment to workforce equity and inclusion. A good place to start is to look at those willing to open themselves up to HRC's rating system – especially those that have achieved the highest ratings. We encourage you to check out HRC's Corporate Equality Index and use it to help guide your employment decisions, or, as an employee, to ask company leadership to participate in the Corporate Equality Index survey or advocate for practices that will improve your score! (Some exciting news: HRC will begin assessing whether or not companies make political contributions that support for anti-LGBTQ+ policies as part of their ratings starting next year!)

New Belgium is proud to be the very first craft brewery recognized as one of the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality by the HRC’s Corporate Equality Index, with a perfect score of 100. In addition to offering equal spousal and partner health care, our onsite physician in Fort Collins is trained in transgender medicine and healthcare, and we first started offering health benefits to domestic partners in the 1990s.
